Welcome to the first posting of the ALT experience and its about the exciting animals at Zoo Negara. Lionardo and I will be making short video clips about the ALT experience in Malaysia but due to technical and time issues the video clips will published after our return to Denmark :-)

Velkommen til det første indlæg af ALT oplevelsen og det handler om de spændende dyr i Zoo Negara. Lionardo og jeg skal lave korte videoer om ALT oplevelsen i Malaysia men pga. tekniske og tidsmæssige udfordringer vil videoerne første være klar efter vores hjemkomst :-)

This is our second trip to Zoo Negara and ALT has spotted the pygmy hippo in (Hexaprotodon liberiensis) this pond. Det er vores anden tur til Zoo Negara og ALT har fundet Dværgflodhesten (Hexaprotodon liberiensis) i bassinen.

ALT and I watched as the pygmy hippo stayed submerged for about 1½ mins. Did you know that all hippos secrete a thick, red substance (blood-sweat), which  that acts a sunscreen?  ALT og jeg kiggede på mens dværgflodhesten blev undervandet i ca. 1½ min. Vidste du, at alle flodheste udskiller et tyktflydende rødt sekret, der fungerer som solcreme?

 

In this enclosure we find our first herd of deer (also known as tiger food). Her finder vi vores første flok hjorter (også kendes som Tigermad)

For the lucky few, it is possible to have a close encounter with Bambi. Yes Bambi, jeg have stripes but not like a tiger. Hvis man er heldig, kan man komme rigtig tæt på Bambi. Ja Bambi, jeg har striber men ikke som en tiger.

The Malayan tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni) is peninsular Malaysia's largest predator (up to 2.6 m in length and 130 kg).  Den malaysiske tiger (Panthera tigris jacksoni) er det største røvdyr på den malaysiske halvø (optil 2.6 m lang og optil 130 kg).

A grown tiger can leap up til 10 m or 30 ft. En voksen tiger kan springe op til 10 m.

ALT spotted the Malayan tapirs (Tapirus Indicus), more tiger food.  Tigers prey on young tapir as catching af full grown tapir (Up to 1.8 meters long (6 feet) and 350 kg (720 pounds) would be difficult for the tiger. ALT fandte de malaysiske tapir (Tapirus Indicus), mere tigermad. Tiger fortrækker tapir unge, da de voksne kan blive for stor til en tiger (optil 1.8 meter lang og optil 350 kg) 

The gaur (Bos gaurus) is the largest species of wild cattle. The average weight is 650 to 1,000 kg (1,400 to 2,200 lb), a large bull can weigh up to 1,500 kg (3,300 lb). Adult gaurs are capable of killing a tiger. Gaur (Bos gaurus) er de storste vilde kvæg. De vejer gennemsnitlig mellem 650 til 1,000 kg, en stor tyr kan veje optil 1,500 kg. Voksne gaur er i stand til at slå en tiger ihjel.
